HYPA™ in the Community

CommunityAn organisation that engages HYPA™ is not only becoming accredited to engage, retain and grow young professionals in their organisation, but is also ‘giving back to the community’ by using a service whose profit margins are fed directly back into a vital community service.

Service to Youth Council (SYC) was established on 9th September 1958 and was initially focused on adolescents in state managed institutions and young people ‘roaming’ the streets of Adelaide. Over the past 50 years, SYC has delivered many innovative programs aimed at helping young people achieve.

SYC has greatly expanded its support to young people to include accommodation, volunteer, education, employment, recreation and personal support services. SYC’s success over time can be attributed to its ability to respond to the changing and evolving needs of young people and our community. What has not changed over the past 50 years is SYC’s commitment to addressing social disadvantage for young people by providing them with opportunities to achieve independence and to make a positive contribution to our community.

In 2008 SYC has grown to have four divisions that support young people:

  • Youth Agency – A dedicated youth agency working across accommodation, education, pre-employment, juvenile justice and crisis intervention.
  • Job Prospects – Job Network services to help people connect with employment.
  • Training Prospects – SA’s largest non-government training provider offering apprenticeships, traineeships and vocational training across 66 qualifications.
  • HYPA™ – Helping Young People Achieve – Supporting employers and young people to make better connections for the benefit of South Australia.
